Deflation in Dublins gay scene – a sign of the times

It started three weeks ago with the perfectly preposterous half price sale in Panti bar. Now (30 minutes ago via Facebook), Capital bars have hit back with the following promotions in the George tonight;

Drink promo’s for tonight … Pt of miller €3.50 …Quater Bt Wine €3.50 .. WKD €3.50… Jagerbomb €3.50 Bt Stella €3.50 Huzzar Vodka €3.50 Valid till 11pm Sundays only…

Looks like Capital bars are suffering and Panti appears to be the winner in this round.  I was at Pantibar last Sunday, and the week before and the place was heaving. Great atmosphere to boot. I decided to give it a miss this week due to the difficulty experienced in getting up for work the following morning.

Finally, some value on the gay scene in Dublin and by all accounts, it looks like the Dublin gays are voting with their feet.

X Factor @ Heathrow

It’s all so clear now…

He was beside me earlier today in Heathrow Airport for the security check. I was getting the evening London Heathrow to Dublin  flight. I thought he looked familiar but couldn’t place him. Then I thought he cold be that guy from X Factor. I couldn’t think of his name – I’m terrible with names. So I looked out for his treble clef tattoo on his wrist.. and bingo. It was him. Danyl Johnson. I was like a giddy teenager – totally star struck for about 5 seconds. I’d only been in London for a single day and I meet a celebrity. So that was it. I was hungry so I walked into the first restaurant I found and ordered a sushi rice and smoked salmon salad and a tropical flavored smoothie – January being my detox month. Anyway, here I was minding my business, tucking into my delicious salad and who walks by – Mr. Danyl Johnson himself.  He posed for a few photographs with a group of teenage girls and some of the waiting staff which was quite nice of him. I briefly though of asking for a photo opportunity too but decided to play it cool instead. It was soon time to make my way to the gate and board my flight home. There was a slight delay but nothing too stressful. Anyway, I board the plane, get comfy, and low and behold, who strolls by.. the one and only Danyl Jonnson.

Turns out he is singing in the George night club in Dublin tonight.
